We were the first and are currently the only
location in Houston, Texas that teaches the Ed Parker Kenpo
System as it was prescribed by the Senior Grand Master prior to
his passing. We are currently holding standard classes and private lessons at Abhyasa Yoga
at the corner of Montrose and Westheimer.

Promotions for Houston Kenpo during this years Texas Spirit Camp
Oct 2009 - During this years Spirit camp hosted by Mr. Brian Duffy, 7th Degree Black Belt several members of Houston Kenpo were promoted. Jason Bugg, 1st Black, Monte Dudley, 1st Brown, Todd Agers, 1st Brown.
Houston Kenpo visits Guro Thomas Lomax
Sept 2009 - While visiting family in Memphis, Tn, Houston Kenpo had a chance to visit with Guro Thomas Lomax. Guro Lomax is a master instructor in the art of Silat under both Guro Cliff Stewart and Pendekar Paul Dethuars. Professor Lomax spent several hours discussion martial arts, Silat and show various applications and concepts within the system. It was informative and enlightening. Professor Lomax agreed to allow Houston Kenpo to come back for further study in these fascinating topics.
Frank Garza visits Houston Kenpo
August 2009 - During a business trip to Houston, Tx Houston Kenpo has the pleasure of meeting Mr. Frank Garza, 4th Degree Black Belt from Little Rock, Arkansas. Mr. Garza was able to visit and teach a class at Houston Kenpo's then newly formed Wednesday night class. It was a great opportunity for the students to work with another instructor who displayed various skill sets and system understands that they had not been exposed to. Topics included filipino drills: hubud into kenpo techniques, Humble Tiger Silat and various concepts and principles of combat. It was a great experience and we look forward to his next visit.
Houston Kenpo Teaches at Texas Storm
Feb 2009 - During a business trip to Dallas Houston Kenpo had a chance to visit Bill Piper and Texas Storm Kenpo in Richland Hills, Tx. During the visit I was able to lead the class and share Cinco Teros and the 6 count sumbrada along with the empty hand drill application and the opportunities for spontaneous flow into Kenpo techniques. Thanks to Texas Storm and Mr. Piper for their open minds and hospitality.
Houston Kenpo Teaches at AKF Black Belt/ Brown Belt mini-camp
Jan 2009 - During the 1st Black Belt/Brown Belt AKF mini-camp of 2009, Houston Kenpo had the opportunity to share Cinco Teros with participants. The basic offensive strikes and defense responses were covered, the 6 count sumbrada was then explored along with applications using empty hand and knife. All are foundation components taught in the IMUA Kenpo system. It was a well received session and we were invited to share additional information during the next mini-camp.

November 5, 2006 - A member of the King Tiger International
Academy of Indonesian Martial Arts visited the platform and shared
the art of Pukulan Cimande Pusaka Pencak Silat. It was a good time of
sharing concepts and principles.
Houston Platform attends American Kenpo Federation Camp, Oct 7-9, 2006
October 7-9, 2006 - The AKF Texas Spirit Camp featured Mr. Frank Trejo, Mr. Dennis Conatser & Dr. Ron Chapel. The program was well attended and the presenters shared insights into American Kenpo that amazed and delighted participants. Mr. Conatser's topics included master key movements of the system, focused basics and insights into the Infinite Insights series. Mr. Trejo covered advanced applications of the sticky hands, Kenpo techniques with defensive boxing suffixes and a knife template based on the Bondo system of martial arts. Dr. Chapel amazed people with his understanding and knowledge of structural integrity, anatomical alignment and various Sub-Level Four Concepts that are specific to that study of the martial arts
HAKTP attends Black Belt / Brown Belt mini-camp
September 2, 2006 - I was fortunate enough to be able to attend this quarters AKF mini-camp in Austin, Texas. The topics covered included form 4 & form 5. After the mini-camp was complete most participants packed up and drove down to San Antonio, Tx to participate in a Jeff Speakman seminar.
Irish Kenpo visits the Houston American Kenpo Training Platform
June 24, 2006 - Darren Jordan, AKF 1st Black traveled to Houston, TX to share in a training session with Jason Bugg. The session lasted 3 1/2 hours. Topics covered included the IMUA Kenpo's matrix (Kali entry system) and applications into Kenpo techniques,the 12 step knife strip (Inosanto blend), Pekiti Tirsia empty hand vs knife, Zach Whitson's Kenpo Knife Counterpoint, basic 5 stick angles (cinco teros) and defenses, basic 3 count and 5 count sumbrada. The was a good deal of laughing and sharing of information. The day was closed out with a trip to the Chinese buffet.

Zach Whitson - Counter Point Tactical Retreat , May 20 & 21, 2006
May 20 & 21, 2006 - The Houston American Kenpo Training Platform (AKF Club) hosted a Tactical Training Retreat with guest instructor Professor Zach Whitson. Mr. Whitson a Mataas na Guro "Master Instructor" rank in the blade art of Pekiti Tirsia Kali and seventh degree black belt in Ed Parker's American Kenpo.The primary focus of the retreat was on CST (Counterpoint Tactial Systems). Professor Whitson is the founder of the Counterpoint Tactical System, which is a weapon based mixed martial art designed for the street with an emphasis on tactical counter offense. Topics covered at the retreat included single & double baston, stand up grappling applications and empty hand vs knife concepts and princples.
